WHY AND HOW TO JOIN
WHY JOIN NJAHSA - SENIOR HOUSING
Enhancing quality of life service and support for New Jersey senior citizens has been NJAHSA's mission since 1931. NJAHSA is the only association in New Jersey that represents the entire continuum of non-profit and public long-term care and senior housing settings. Our more than 135 members serve an estimated 25,000 senior citizens from New Jersey annually. Senior housing is of particular importance to NJAHSA because of its invaluable ability to promote independence, preserve self-respect, and provide vital supportive services in a congregate setting.
NJAHSA's recent efforts in the senior housing industry have included:
- Addressing the challenges of funding for the Congregate Housing Program
- Analysis, monitoring, and advocacy pertaining to legislation and regulations such as amendments to the Resident Rights and Automatic Door Installation Bills, Lease Option Bills, and Older Americans Act funding
- Developing an Emergency Preparedness/Response Plan template and the "Sheltering in Place" training video specific to Senior Housing
- Creating an annual Senior Housing Institute for housing professionals
- Implementing ongoing Housing Members Roundtable Discussion Meetings
